Interactions with the people in my life have always revolved around a pursuit of their true character. It is the person behind the façade that matters. It is what is unsaid that needs to be heard. Truth is found in the wilderness. That is the only trail worth taking; no matter where it may lead.
My belief is that art should also be uncompromisingly honest, especially from the artist's perspective, or it will ultimately suffer, lacking both originality and depth. My art intends to discover and expose and faithfully portray the unedited, raw nature of human beings. The portraits or figurative pieces I create require both a technical proficiency to render my subject's physical features and body language accurately as well as an honest and fearless interpretation of their inward story. This story is told in their thoughts, choices and beliefs, in what they love and hate and the qualities or blind ideals that abide in them mentally, physically and spiritually. They are manifest in both the glory and the scars inflicted on them by life. |
My work is an amalgamation of both Surrealism and Symbolism. I love to create visual metaphors for and about my subjects. I enjoy creating a pantheon of symbols out of a catalogue of objects and colors and ideas. I also want to morph those figures and scenes to create my own surrealistic landscape.
